The Newtown Forum

Newtown is renowned for its demonstration of social justice, political activism and environmental solidarity.   Surrounded by a popular passive theatre district, the proposed Oratorium is a place for speaking, empowering the audience to move outside the spectator’s role to promote the range of what they feel entitled to do for their belief.

Food and art is a language amongst all people and the common denominator that connects all of us.  To bring people together the forum adapts to be a food and drinking hall for the existing Young Henry’s Brewery, extending the use of the space so that it becomes the dinner table to discuss ideas after an event.

Phillip Laneway has become an icon for graffiti art and expression.  The whispering walls of the forum integrate a series of acoustic parabolic speakers to enhance the visual experience and meaning of the opposing graffiti murals.   In turn extending the laneway to become an iconic indie museum through the emancipation of Newtown's graffiti scene.
